L'amour De Soi
Celebrating
Educators and Child Care Professionals
What's The L'amour De Soi Project
L'amour de Soi was created during the genesis of the World Pandemic in 2021 to uplift, advocate, and support teachers providing mental health safe-spaces and guides for the education community
Here, at Kappa Learning Group, we are proud to re-introduce our latest project--L’Amour de Soi--A Guide to One's Heart for Professional Educators & Caregivers.
We believe that educators are some of the most underappreciated professionals in our society. They often give so much of themselves and don't always take the time to care for themselves as well as they should. Our goal with this project is to encourage early childhood educators/professionals, center directors, private/public educators, nannies, mannies, sitters, children authors and librarians to indulge in self-care and self-love by giving them a month of uplifting support and guidance from experts in the field. This is an online event hosted on Facebook and Instagram.

Reagan Fulton is a nature-based educator, entrepreneur, artist, mom, and leader in the nanny community. Reagan grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was a nanny for almost 10 years before she started offering childcare from her home. Believing that nature-based education is the best way to help children learn while having fun, in 2021, she founded Playful Acre. She works to preserve the magic of childhood by teaching parents, teachers, and nannies how to effectively implement outdoor play.
The L'amour De Soi Project Framework
The L'amour De Soi Framework
The vast array of experiences had by educators are as distinct and individual as each human's fingerprint. Their singular journeys create a stunning and multi-colored canvas that captures the admiration and respect of all who behold it. They have a voice that brings with it laughter, passion, and pride; yet, their moments of sadness, tears, and the strain of having to accomplish their obligations and duties as teachers are often neglected. It is acknowledged in the education field that a collective culture is formed through the trials and tribulations that educators endure on a day-to-day basis, some of which may not be experienced by the wider population.
The Challenge.
Issues such as burnout/overworked, the novel coronavirus, the shortage of supplies and lack of management assistance, student and parental misbehavior, racial differences, health concerns of pupils and negligence of their own, meagre salaries and food insecurity, workplace disparities, and many more, lead to issues with mental health.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, teachers are 15% more likely to commit suicide than those of other professions (Cooper, 2018). Educators are frequently left feeling alone, unappreciated, and unseen.
The perception of mental health within the academic circle is quite harsh. Facing our present mental state head-on may not be something we feel like we can take on. Acknowledging issues with our mental wellbeing is often seen as a sign of frailty, with the idea that all we have to do is work harder" (Boudreau, 2019, par 4). Moreover, the obstacles that a teacher, especially one from a minority background, face are immense. Negative thoughts and judgements of people dealing with mental health issues are a reality across the United States, and this attitude is particularly strong among African-Americans (NAMI California, n.a., par9).
The L'amour De Soi Framework
The Problem.
So, why is it that educators are not being given safe spaces, the necessary resources, and support when it comes to mental health issues? "Teachers consistently encourage their students to take care of mindset and take the time to reflect, yet often do not allow themselves to receive these same messages"(Boudreau, 2019, par 1). These factors combined with the complexities of race, gender, socioeconomic status, and their job, produce a deluge of disadvantages, bias, and racism, leading to distress and poor mental health.
The Solution.
Therefore, in order to have an effective solution, we must:
Hello, my name is Jocelyn Dionne the founder and organizer of Kappa Learning Group in Norcross, GA.
As the founder and president of Kappa Learning Group, I am delighted to introduce our latest project, L'Amour de Soi--A Guide to One's Heart for Professional Educators & Caregivers.
As an educator who understands the stresses and rewards of this profession all too well, it is my duty as a leader in this industry - but also one of my greatest joys - to empower fellow professionals through knowledge-sharing. My responsibility is mine alone; yet being at its helm makes me feel fulfilled and content with what I'm doing each day.
What better time than now, during February, which some might call Love Month, or Black History Month in America? These opportunities are perfect occasions when we can honor ourselves and those around us who lead seemingly invisible lives in pursuit of excellence every day--those who rarely or never see themselves celebrated for their contributions.
